New Initiatives /New Beginnings

After several years of deliberating, I took the step to leave my position as the Native Cultural Coordinator with the New Experiences Program after 14 years of dedication to youth 12-17 struggling with concurrent disorders. It was a difficult thing to do as I been very comfortable in the position and for the most part truly enjoyed my purpose there. So the question is what's next?

A Career in Comedy for 2012!

Back in 2009, I entered a Comic Idol Competition in Thunder Bay Ontario winning 2nd but was told by vetran comedian, John Caponera, that I had natural potential to be a stand-up comic and that hands down I was the winner in his mind. This only gave me fuel to return and take 1st place in 2010. Since then, I have made several appearances receiving attention and feedback to continue and "PUSH" as encouraged by Darryl Lenox. I have recently started the North Shore Comedy Company informally and we have commenced conducting a few shows in the region with several other local comics such as Lee Noyes, Chris Holland and Joe Ripku. My act/shows are being gathered by Thunderstone and steps are being taken as we speak to create websites and set up a northern tour.

Youth Role Model Program

I have also invested in working closely with youth living healthy lifestyles and pursuing their passion in music and dance. This result of this initiative is the creation of a team of performers including: my daughter Sara Kanutski, Natasha Fisher and DJ Classic Roots (Joshua Deperry). We have spent the past several months travelling together playing small shows and venues promoting healthy living. I see the value in assisting youth in pursuing their dreams and passion. In 2012, I will be working diligently in finding venues for youth musicians to share their talents and value their gifts and abilities as artists.

Working with Sara Kanutski

Please visit my daughter's reverb nation page at www.reverbnation.com . She is listed under Sara Kanutski. She can also be found on facebook as well under the same heading. Please watch out for Sara's new video and CD release in 2012. We also have a number of live videos on sara's performances available for viewing.
